Hey Guys! Welcome back to Interesting Intelligence! This blog is about my thoughts on the new iOS 14 software update from Apple.
One pretty solid thing is that even the old iPhone SE is getting this update. This is a very significant update for Apple. Probably, the most important one in a long time. The big thing in this update is widgets. Widgets are something we have seen in Android since forever, and it is good to see them in iOS as well. The widget experience is very different on the iPhone, these widgets come in three sizes; small, medium and large. The small square-shaped one looks the nicest on the home screen.
If you want to interact with the widgets without opening the app, it is not possible in the small widgets. I liked the widgets, but I did not feel familiar with them. Another thing which they added is picture-in-picture again something which Android already has. I actually found it weird that the old iPhone SE could perform picture-in-picture with just 2 gigs of RAM. It's pretty cool. They are also allowing to change the default apps for mails and web-browsers. This is a good start, but it should be extended to all the apps.
Another significant feature they have added in iOS 14 is the app library. It is basically a storage place for all of your apps. If you have a ton of apps, it is beneficial. It gives you a lot of customizability so you can make your home screen ultra-clean. It is a bit different, but it is better than nothing. Another new trending feature is the double/triple tap. So, if you tap the back of the phone, the notification bar pops up which is cool. Though there is one problem, that if you keep the unlocked phone down, it activates that gesture. The idea is constructive for phones with notches but needs improvement.
There are many other features in iOS 14, but I don't think they are essential. I just feel that i0S14 is a step in the right direction for Apple.
